Frequently asked questions

What is an EU-built startup?

An EU-built startup is a software company founded and headquartered in an EU member state. Operating under EU law rather than US jurisdiction, their users' data is not subject to the US CLOUD Act or FISA 702. EU Alts lists 134 such companies across SaaS, cloud, analytics, developer tools, fintech, and more.

Are EU startups GDPR compliant?

EU-headquartered companies are subject to the GDPR by default and cannot be compelled to hand data to US authorities under the CLOUD Act. For stronger assurance, look for providers that publish a signed Data Processing Agreement (DPA), list all subprocessors, store data exclusively in EU data centres, and name a Data Protection Officer. Every company on this page is EU-founded.

How are startups listed in this directory?

Companies are added through a public submission form. The team verifies that each startup is genuinely EU-headquartered before listing it. The directory covers B2B SaaS and software tools — consumer apps and hardware companies are generally excluded. Listings are free.

What categories of EU startups are in this directory?

The directory spans more than 20 categories including cloud infrastructure, analytics, developer tools, authentication, email marketing, CRM, video conferencing, form builders, knowledge management, and fintech. You can also browse by US product — for example, EU alternatives to Google Analytics, Slack, GitHub, or Zoom.
