EU Alts

Privacy Policy

Last updated 2026-10-29. EU Alts is operated by polarmake, Norway, which is the data controller and can be reached at admin@eualts.eu.

Browsing the directory

You do not need an account to read eualts.eu. We measure traffic with cookieless, self-hosted analytics (Umami, run on our own server). We use it for aggregate page and referrer counts. No advertising or third-party tracking scripts are loaded.

Submitting a listing

Submitting a startup requires signing in with FjordID, an identity service we host ourselves. We receive your account identifier, email address and, if set, display name. We keep a first-party session cookie (eualts_session) for up to 7 days so you stay signed in while filling in the form. It is strictly necessary for the form to work and is not used for tracking.

We store what you submit (company name, website, descriptions, optional logo, founding year, headquarters) together with your email address, so we can review the submission and contact you about it. We send the operator an email notification that includes the submission and your email address, and we send you a receipt from support@eualts.eu with a link to manage it.

While a submission is in review you can see, edit or withdraw it at /submit/mine; you only ever see submissions that carry your own email address. A withdrawn submission stays on record as declined until you ask us to delete it.

Where data is stored

The database and logo storage run on Hetzner in Germany. The other services that touch personal data are listed on the subprocessors page. We use no third-party error reporting: errors are written only to our own server logs. The notification email to the operator and the receipt to you are sent through Brevo in France.

Legal basis and retention

We process submission data to run the directory at your request (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)) and aggregate analytics under our legitimate interest in knowing which pages are useful (Art. 6(1)(f)). Submission records are kept until you ask us to delete them or the listing is removed.

Your rights

You can ask for access to, correction of, or deletion of your data, or object to processing, by writing to admin@eualts.eu. You can also complain to your data protection authority; in Norway that is Datatilsynet.
